With a view to gaining European competitiveness and upgrading the Gare du Nord in the eyes of its users, SNCF consulted the Franklin Azzi Architecture agency to make a proposal for restructuring the station.
Franklin Azzi Architecture therefore recommends a profound transformation of public spaces and restructuring of shops to enhance the spaces of the existing station. For the agency, it is essential to restore the verticality of the interior facade in order to restore the Gare du Nord to its exceptional architecture which made it the first cathedral station during its 19th century construction. Also, this would make it possible to reinvent the emblematic uses that have been forgotten and therefore to install a hotel and a panoramic restaurant in the interior facade.
Franklin Azzi Architecture also proposes to renovate the roof in order to bring in deep natural light and to make the infrastructure levels viable. Finally, recomposing the historic pediment in line with the existing one would make it possible to boost it while maintaining the Eurostar departure platform.
Also, there is the creation of a functional building on rue de Maubeuge which would extend the Eurostar departure platform and which would also offer coworking spaces and a security center.
