Architecture

Castiglione

From the outset, architect Franklin Azzi has been committed to the rehabilitation of built heritage. Based on the many practical cases he has studied and transformed over the last twenty years, he applies a methodology that is both technical and sensitive, enabling him to position the cursor of his intervention ‘as accurately as possible’.

The address of the Castiglione block is prestigious, its built heritage a piece of history. It began as a Cistercian convent, followed by the many urban and architectural transformations that make up the history of Paris. The creation of the first section of what is now rue Rivoli in the 19th century, and the connection between Place Vendôme and the Tuileries, set the seal on the current design: a tenement building with a large noble façade and a covered passageway under arcades some 25 metres long - an architectural landmark of major Parisian sites such as the garden of the Palais Royal, rue Rivoli and the covered passageways in the Bourse du Commerce district.

The renovation by Franklin Azzi will seek to preserve as many of the site's features as possible - arcades, shop windows, mosaics, blinds and lighting - while enabling it to accommodate new uses by clarifying the flows (private, public) of the programmes (shops, housing). A balance between heritage and modernity.
