As the new owners of a building at the end of the plot situated 61 Dunkerque Street in the 9th district of Paris, Mr. F.L. and Ms. K.D. are seeking to increase the useable area of their property.
FAA spontaneously takes the square metres required from removing the existing roof and elevating the existing building. The extension of the roof takes the form of cantilever overhangs.
The project worked within the constraints, the context and the needs, in a holistic approach to architecture. Our team needed proficiency in PLU regulations (Local Urbanism Plan of Paris) to get across the fact that the facade is no longer plumb. The existing attic becomes the third floor, thanks to the extension of the roof – a 27 square metre (290 square feet) volume is added and overhung. An additional rooftop terrace is created.
By designing a light timber frame extension on the roof – with external insulation and a wooden cladding with a thickness of 10 cm – the structure of the existing building is preserved as far as possible and the duration of the construction work is limited.
