Inaugurated in 1989, the Pyramid of i.m.. Pei was originally designed to accommodate 4.5 million visitors per year. Today, the Louvre hosts over 9 million visitors, with the aim to increase this figure in the coming years.
In 2014, the Louvre has begun a major project that will allow it to replace its reception facilities today and undersized set to place the visitor at the center of the museum.
It is in the context of the general reorganization of spaces for visitors that future Bookstore implants on both sides of the aisle of the Grand Louvre. It will consolidate and commercial spaces (library, cards, books for children) once scattered in several locations. Positioned on the major axis between the Great Pyramid and the Inverted Pyramid, the Bookstore is both a space for preparation and closing to visitors who must give its users an impression at the height of the nobility and fame the Louvre and guarantee comfort and quality at work NMR staff.
Showcase of Western Art from the Middle Ages to 1848 and of ancient civilizations, the Louvre is in our build an efficient commercial space, functional and contemporary.
Our conception of the development of the Bookstore defends the foundations of a service architecture, an attractive and functional architecture, based on a detailed analysis of needs and context. The contest has been also registered well beyond simple interior spaces of the future Bookstore; The challenge is threefold:
Compilation of different thoughts we have had for this project, our desire was to see them as a series of intentions interesting architecture, interior design, set design, and special furniture.
We also wanted a project consistent with the architectural style of IM Pei, who claims his own identity and contributes to the influence of the Louvre Museum.
